Phil Foden is one of the brightest, most successful young footballers in the world.

At 23 years of age he already has five Premier League titles, two FA Cups, four League Cups and a Champions League under his belt.

2022/23, though, largely saw Phil Foden take a back-up spot in Man City’s best XI.

Foden started out the season as the Sky Blues’ main left-winger, but was quickly switched over to the right and in some cases, benched completely or used an impact sub.

This was because Jack Grealish, who had a mixed debut campaign at the Etihad, improved a great deal and was very much Pep Guardiola’s favoured left-winger in the second half of the season.

Despite not being able to nail down a regular starting place or position, though, Foden still scored 11 and assisted five in 2022/23.

With the futures of Ilkay Gundogan and Bernardo Silva up in the air, moving Foden back into his natural central role does make sense.
