Manchester United academy graduate Marcus Rashford has reportedly been left ‘considering his future’ following his selection snub in the Manchester Derby.

Injuries to Edinson Cavani and Cristiano Ronaldo, combined with the loaning out of Anthony Martial meant that the Englishman was the only recognised forward in the Manchester United squad as they made the trip to the Etihad stadium.

Despite this, Ralf Rangnick named him among the substitutes, opting for Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes as the two centre-forwards instead, and Rashford was only introduced late on as a second-half substitute, alongside the outgoing Jesse Lingard.

It seems as though Rashford could follow Lingard out of the club too, with just 12 months left on his contract at Old Trafford come the summer, and as of yet no inclination to sign an extension.

Problems run deeper than Rashford

For Manchester United, the loss of their most promising academy graduate in a decade would be a bitter blow, but truthfully the problems run far deeper than this.

In a cruel twist of fate, failing to get Champions League football could well be one of the best things to happen to Manchester United, as they need a complete and utter rebuild rather than short term fixes to their massive decline.
