Arsenal midfield man Jorginho is expected to stay at the club until at least 2025, it has been reported, despite strong reports linking him with a move back to Italy or to Turkey over the summer.

The Italian arrived in January for a fee of £12m, signing an 18-month deal with the option for a further year, but has been bumped down the pecking order by the summer arrival of Declan Rice in a then-record £105m move.

As a result, the ex-Chelsea man is yet to start a game this season, though he has appeared from the substitutes bench late on in three of their five Premier League outings so far.

However, footballtransfers.com report that the Gunners are ‘planning to take up the one-year option in Jorginho’s contract’ despite this lack of football, with more minutes expected for the veteran in the Champions League and domestic cup competitions.

This comes amid increasing speculation that Thomas Partey’s days in north London may be numbered after it emerged that he was expendable over the summer, though no bid matched Arsenal’s £40m asking price was forthcoming.

Also out of contract in 2025 as things stand, the Ghanaian could be the one that is deemed surplus to requirements again next summer, with Jorginho the beneficiary.

“I’m trying to pick up things off Jorginho because he is not the biggest, but the way his brain works as a holding midfielder, he is always in position, always knows when to pass and always create time for himself”, he told Channel 4.

“He is an outstanding player and I am trying to learn from him”, he added.
