West Ham and David Moyes are closing in on making former Arsenal defender Dinos Mavropanos their second signing of the summer in a deal worth 25m euros.
The Hammers have been slow out of the blocks this summer despite selling Declan Rice to Arsenal for a record £105m fee, making him the most expensive Englishman of all time.
They have also lost Gianluca Scamacca just 12 months after he arrived in east London, with the Italian returning to Serie A with Atalanta.
However, they have hardly managed to add any fresh faces to their side, with only James Ward-Prowse and Edson Alvarez having arrived so far.
Moyes’ side were looking to sign Harry Maguire, but a disagreement between Maguire and Manchester United over his payoff saw a move collapse despite the two sides having agreed a £30m fee.
Instead, the Hammers have turned to Stuttgart defender Dinos Mavropanos, who has rejuvenated his career since leaving the Gunners for Germany in 2019.
Arsenal have a 10% sell on clause, it is reported, which will see the Gunners net a fee of around 2m euros should the deal ultimately go through.
Following his arrival, West Ham are still keen to strengthen further in attack, with Ajax attacker Mohammed Kudus top of their list. They have seen an initial £35m bid turned down, but they are expected to return with an improved offer and Kudus is thought to be determined to depart Ajax this summer amid interest from Arsenal and Brighton.
