Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric has crossed the Clasico divide to congratulate Barcelona regista Sergio Busquets on his career with the Catalan giants on social media.
The midfielder has confirmed that he will be leaving the Camp Nou outfit after 18 years and 31 trophies. During that time he has managed to make over 700 appearances, third in Barca’s all-time list behind only Lionel Messi and current Barcelona boss Xavi.
However, he is set to move on at the end of season, he confirmed in a statement.
“Although it has not been an easy decision, I think the time has come,” Busquets said.
“It has been an unforgettable journey”, the Spanish veteran continued.
“I always dreamed of playing with this shirt and at this stadium. Reality has exceeded all my dreams.
“But everything has a beginning and an end. I want to thank all the people who made this possible, from the first day to the last.”

And his announcement has prompted a wave of tributes, which Luka Modric added his own voice to.
“One of the best midfielders I’ve ever played against. It has been a pleasure”, the Croatian maestro wrote on twitter after the news emerged.

It is unclear where Busquets’ next destination will be, with rumours of moves to the MLS or Saudi Arabia, where he may reunite with Messi if reports are to be believed.
Meanwhile, the Blaugrana will have to begin the long overdue process of replacing one of the best midfielders of his generation.
