Paris Saint Germain have reportedly warned Chelsea that they will no longer do business with the west London outfit after their loan move for Hakim Ziyech collapsed in the dying minutes of transfer deadline day.
The Moroccan attacker was deemed surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge after the arrival of wingers Noni Madueke and Mykhaylo Mudryk in the January transfer window, and had lined up a temporary move to the French champions in a bid to revitalise his stalling career.
However, with Chelsea’s hierarchy all in Portugal deep in negotiations for Benfica midfielder Enzo Fernandez, who ultimately arrived in a 120m euro deal with moments left in the transfer window, it appears that other transfers were neglected.
Omari Hutchinson’s proposed loan to Reading fell through, while Ziyech’s paperwork was not submitted by the Blues in time. According to reports, Chelsea failed to answer when asked for their signature on the paperwork, before sending the wrong documents twice and only eventually submitting the right paperwork minutes after the deadline.
And, despite an appeal from Paris Saint Germain, the LFP confirmed that a deal could not go ahead as a result of “an unjustifiable delay in sending documents”, despite Ziyech having spent all of deadline day in Paris anticipating a move.
It is not something that has gone down well at the Parc Des Princes, with the French side now one man lighter in attack than they began the window following the sale of Pablo Sarabia to Wolves. And it could well have a lasting effect.
Ziyech will now return to Stamford Bridge, where he will have to fight for his place amid the resurgent competition.
