Clubs will be able to sign Crystal Palace winger Michael Olise for just £35m this summer with a release clause in his contract, it has emerged.

The Frenchman arrived from Reading in a deal worth £8m in 2021, and has gone on to make himself a regular feature in the Eagles side. A left-footed right winger, the 21-year-old chipped in with 11 assists last season as well as two goals, and has made himself a key part of Crystal Palace’s attack.

However, that could all change after it emerged that his £35m release clause remains in his contract. First revealed last summer, it was thought that it had since been removed, but the Athletic claim that this is untrue, and that there is a clause ‘which would permit Olise to speak to interested clubs if Palace received an offer that guaranteed them £35million’.

This has led to widespread interest in Olise, with Chelsea and Manchester City among clubs considering making a move for the youngster. Capped at youth level for France, Olise is seen as a potential option to replace Riyad Mahrez at the Etihad, with the Algerian having made the switch to Saudi side Al Ahli earlier in the summer.

Meanwhile, Chelsea have already signed Noni Madueke but have no obvious cover for the England youth international, and would be keen to add another winger before the end of the transfer window.

Crystal Palace have already lost Wilfried Zaha this summer, with the Ivorian running down his contract to join Galatasaray on a free transfer, though they have signed young Brazilian wonderkid Matheus Franca in a bid to minimise the impact of his departure.
