West Ham United have, on Thursday, confirmed that the club have been dealt a blow on the personnel front.

The Irons star set for an upcoming spell on the treatment table? Kurt Zouma.

Stopper Zouma of course set alarm bells ringing in east London earlier this month, after limping out of a Premier League meeting with Leicester City prior to the World Cup break.

Ensuing reports assured that the issue was not a serious one, with the former Chelsea star unlikely to be forced into any sort of considerable stretch on the sidelines.

As alluded to above, though, evidently, such claims proved wide of the mark.

As per an official statement across the Hammers’ social media platforms late on Thursday evening, Zouma was today forced to undergo an operation, in a bid to solve a knee complaint:

‘The French defender will now continue his rehabilitation at Rush Green with the Club’s medical team.

‘Everyone at West Ham United would like to wish Kurt a speedy recovery.’

It is currently unclear exactly how long the 28-year-old is likely to be out of action, but his status for West Ham’s post-World Cup return to action versus Arsenal on Boxing Day, as things stand, looks up in the air.
