Chelsea have been handed a massive boost as it has been reported that ‘confidence is growing… that Mason Mount will snub interest from Liverpool and sign a new long-term contract” at his boyhood club, buoyed by the impending arrival of Mauricio Pochettino.
The Englishman, who is out of contract in 2024 and has so far been unwilling to extend his time in west London, will not play again this season after picking up a groin injury before the international break in March that required surgery.
Mount reportedly has a whole host of suitors, with Bayern Munich leading the race from a European perspective and Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool and Newcastle United all among Premier League clubs keen on exploring a potential move.
And it was understood that Chelsea would look to sell the 24-year-old should he be unwilling to extend his contract rather than risk losing him for free in 12 months, with the club’s financial position also meaning that the departure of homegrown talent is a lucrative option with regards to financial fair play.

Having registered a loss of £343m in the past four seasons, and over £100m in their most recent year, they are under some pressure to raise funds fast. And, selling a homegrown talent would allow them to register all of the money as profit, a massive bonus for FFP concerns.
However, Mount will seemingly not be one of them, with FootballInsider claiming that ‘the imminent appointment of Mauricio Pochettino has given hope to those inside Stamford Bridge that Mount will stay put at Chelsea’.
