Bayern Munich star Thomas Muller, on Saturday, etched his name ever further into the history books of German football.

Muller, and Bayern, marked their return to action a short time ago.

After being leapfrogged to the summit of the Bundesliga table by Borussia Dortmund on Friday, Julian Nagelsmann’s troops made the trip to Stuttgart, in the knowledge that a three-point haul of their own was something of a must.

And, when all was said and done at the Mercedes-Benz Arena, the evening’s visitors, to their credit, went on to secure precisely that.

This came as goals on the part of Matthijs de Ligt and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting proved enough to guide Bayern to the right side of a 2-1 result.

As alluded to above, however, post-match, it is not the Bavarian giants’ goalscorers on Saturday who have taken their place centre stage in the headlines.

Frontman Muller played a central role in Bayern’s triumph over Stuttgart, teeing up Choupo-Moting’s crucial 2nd courtesy of his 7th assist of the campaign.

And, in the process, the German international secured for himself an altogether noteworthy piece of history.

As per statisticians Opta, Muller today became just the 2nd player, after Robert Lewandowski, to rack up 300 direct goal contributions in Germany’s top-flight since such data first became available all the way back in 2004.
