Luton Town’s victory over Coventry City on Saturday evening saw Pelly-Ruddock Mpanzu etch his name indellibly into the history books of English football.

The latest edition of ‘the richest game in football’, of course, was played to completion a short time ago.

The matchup in question saw the aforementioned Luton go head-to-head with Coventry City, in the Championship playoff final.

And, when all was said and done in a tense affair at Wembley, it was the former who emerged triumphant, to book their place in the Premier League for the 2023/24 campaign.

After the two sides could not be separated across a full 120 minutes, a nail-biting penalty shootout saw Coventry blink first, en route to a 6-5 Luton victory.

As alluded to above, though, whilst their triumph on Saturday marks a special one for all involved with Luton, for one member of Rob Edwards’ squad, it means history, too.
