Former Chelsea and Paris Saint Germain boss Thomas Tuchel is interested in taking up the England hotseat should it become available after the World Cup, according to reports.

The German manager was sacked by Chelsea just a month into the season following a disappointing start, which culminated in a 1-0 defeat to Dinamo Zagreb in their first Champions League group stage match.

It was felt as though the sacking was on the way irrespective of results, with new owner Todd Boehly keen to add more of a ‘project’ manager having left much of the work on transfers to Tuchel over the summer, something that the German was clearly uncomfortable with.

However, he remains keen to stay in England, with his family settled, and would be open to the England National Team job should it become available after the World Cup, according to the Telegraph.

Gareth Southgate is under contract until 2024, but some uninspiring football and relegation in the Nations League has left plenty speculating that, should poor results continue into Qatar, it will be his last major tournament in charge.

“It remains to be seen whether or not the Football Association would consider an overseas successor to Southgate, but Tuchel would be open to any approach”, they report.

Tuchel would bring plenty of knockout tournament experience to the National setup, having guided Chelsea to two finals last season and winning the Champions League the season before. He also reached the Champions League final with Paris Saint Germain in 2020, something that is looking increasingly impressive given their performances since.
