Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel has, on Saturday evening, confirmed that a key member of the club’s first-team squad has emerged as a fitness doubt for the club’s return to European action.
The player in question? Edouard Mendy.
Shot-stopper Mendy, of course, took centre stage in the headlines earlier today.
This came as the Senegalese was involved in a controversial incident, late in Chelsea’s Premier League derby showdown with West Ham United.
After being clipped by the boot of Jarrod Bowen in the Blues’ penalty area, an ensuing VAR check ultimately culminated in a late equaliser on the part of David Moyes’ visitors being ruled out.
Mendy, in turn, was accused of faking an injury by West Ham’s boss, in a bid to force the hand of the officials overseeing the action.
David Moyes when asked about his thoughts on Edouard Mendy feigning injury:
“I find that insulting. I don’t send my teams out to do that.”

This came as the German tactician confirmed that Mendy is in fact dealing with an injury concern, which, in turn, could rule the Senegalese out of Chelsea’s upcoming Champions League meeting with Dinamo Zagreb.
Thomas Tuchel says that Edouard Mendy may not be fit for the #UCL match on Tuesday.
