Manchester United are closing on a deal for an out-of-favour member of the defensive setup at Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur, according to reports.

The player in question? Sergio Reguilon.

The subject of potential left-back reinforcements has of course taken its place front and centre in the headlines on the red half of Manchester over the course of the last week.

This comes after word was forthcoming that first-choice left-full Luke Shaw was set for an extended spell on the sidelines, owing to a muscular injury.

With backup Tyrell Malacia also out of action, Chelsea star Marc Cucurella was therefore identified as the leading target on the part of Erik ten Hag and co.

Just when it looked as though a deal for the Spaniard was inching closer, however, negotiations between the respective boards at Old Trafford and Stamford Bridge came to a standstill, over the latter’s refusal to agree to a January termination clause.

And, if the latest word stemming from the media on Thursday evening is anything to go by, then talks over a deal for Cucurella’s compatriot appear to be picking up steam.

As per a report from transfer expert David Ornstein of The Athletic:

‘Manchester United are working to complete a deal to sign left-back Sergio Reguilon on loan from Tottenham Hotspur.’

The former Sevilla standout has been given permission to travel to Manchester for a medical, ahead of being unveiled as a new Red Devils player before Friday’s transfer deadline.
