Championship outfit Middlesbrough have, on Sunday, agreed a deal to sell star attacker Chuba Akpom.

The subject of frontman Akpom’s future, of course, has taken its place front and centre in the media headlines across the week to date.

This comes after word was forthcoming that interest in the signature of the former Arsenal talent was beginning to ramp up.

Akpom, for his part, is fresh off a stellar season in The Championship, which saw him rack up 28 goals to lead Michael Carrick’s troops to the promotion playoffs.

The 27-year-old did recently move to reassure fans of Middlesbrough that he would be going nowhere this summer, in confirming that he ‘would love to stay’ put.

Ahead of the expiration of his contract at the Riverside Stadium in less than 12 months’ time, however, the Boro board have evidently come to the decision that the time has come to cash in.

This comes amid widespread confirmation that Eredivisie heavyweights Ajax have, on Sunday, reached an agreement for his signature.

The deal in question, it is understood, is worth an initial €12 million, plus a further €2 million in bonuses.

Akpom has been granted permission to travel to Amsterdam, ahead of undergoing a medical with Ajax, and putting pen to paper on a contract through the summer of 2028.
