The Premier League is one of the most competitive leagues in world football, where there is a real sense that on any given occasion, anyone can beat anyone.

But, sometimes sides make a mockery of that, and go on incredible win streaks to storm ahead of those around them. As it stands, two side share the record, but that could change this season.

The runaway pair

In what is likely a surprise to very few people, especially those who have watched the Premier League in recent years, Liverpool and Manchester City both share the record for longest win streaks in the top flight.

Pep Guardiola’s side set the pace during their impressive centurions season, where they set new records for goals scored and points won in the division.

Their record come the end of the campaign read: Played 38. Won 32. Drawn 4. Lost 2.

In setting such an electric pace, they also managed to win an immense 18 games in a row, almost half of a regular season and smashing through Arsenal’s old record of 14, which they had managed in 2002.

2019 saw the Reds go a full calender year unbeaten in the top flight, with a run of 18 Premier League wins stopped by a 1-1 draw to Manchester United.

No bother, though, as Klopp’s side put together another run of 17 Premier League wins immediately after as his side romped home to the 2019/20 title.

Will it be broken?

Not this season, no.

As it stands, Manchester City have the longest win streak in the Premier League, but even if they manage to win all of their remaining games and win the Premier League title in the process, they will only reach 13 consecutive victories, meaning that theirs and Liverpool’s record will stand a little while longer.
