Arsenal are on course for a massive season under Mikel Arteta, currently sitting on 75 points with five games to go in the campaign.
Outsiders to even finish in the top four at the beginning of the campaign, the Gunners have flown to the top of the Premier League, a spot that they have occupied for much of the season to date.
Three consecutive draws have left their chances of beating Manchester City to the title in jeopardy though, with the current champions just 5 points behind Arteta’s side with two games in hand, and facing the Gunners next at the Etihad.
But would it still be a record-breaking season? We took a look at Arsenal’s best ever Premier League points tally.
Not losing helps
Unsurprisingly, Arsenal’s invincibles hold the current record for the club’s most points in a single season.
Despite going the whole 2003/04 season unbeaten, Arsenal racked up 12 draws along with their 24 wins, meaning that, though they never lost, they only posted a relatively low 90 points by modern standards.
Their best points tally in the last two decades aside from the invincibles came in 07/08, where they racked up 83 points in the season to finish third, despite losing just three times.
Since that campaign, they haven’t breached 80 points, regularly finishing in the 70s and in 4th place, until Arsene Wenger’s final season saw them drop below that mark, where they have remained in almost every season since.
This season could be a record breaker, then,
With six games left to go, Arsenal still can pick up 18 points, which would leave them on 93 for the season, though that would require them to beat Manchester City at the Etihad.
Even should they lose that clash, they could equal their best ever Premier League season.
