Arsenal spent £65m on Kai Havertz this summer, which at the time seemed an odd move given his form for Chelsea.
And so far, Havertz has failed to prove the doubters wrong.
He has shown patches of quality but his finishing leaves much to be desired and his confidence looks to be suffering as a result.
Havertz was especially underwhelming in the 2-2 draw with Fulham on Saturday and was criticised by many.
But Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has come to the defence of one of his new signings.
Speaking after a chaotic second half, Arteta explained why his attacking midfielder hasn’t been at his best. He said: “I saw an action when he played backwards and he could have turned.
“I think he’s done already really good things. Today it was tough in certain moments. He got in great areas and the ball didn’t arrive.
“In a lot of situations, he should have scored a lot of goals already this season. That’s the thing that is missing there.”
