Liverpool are closing in on the signing of summer-long Manchester United target Sofyan Amrabat after missing out on their first choice options, it has been reported.
The Reds have seen both of their first-choice targets head to Stamford Bridge despite having bids accepted for both, with Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia both turning down the option to move to Anfield.
Having let Fabinho depart the club for Al-Ittihad, Jurgen Klopp now faces a situation where only Stefan Bajcetic is a recongised defensive midfielder in his squad, and he is expected to take action imminently to change that by adding Amrabat to their ranks.
As per Dutch source AD, the Reds are ‘on track to finalize the deal in the coming days’, with Fiorentina expected to demand around £30m for his signature.
The news will come as a major blow to Erik ten Hag and Manchester United. It was understood that the Moroccan midfielder was their first-choice option to strengthen in midfield, and could well remain so, but failure to sell either Harry Maguire or Scott McTominay so far this summer have made a move financially impossible.
As they did with Dutchman Cody Gakpo, however, Liverpool have swooped in before Manchester United can figure out their finances, and look set to land their man.
