Tottenham look set to be thwarted in yet another transfer attempt this week as it has emerged that Eintracht Frankfurt attacking midfielder Daichi Kamada could be on his way to Borussia Dortmund on a free transfer, with the German side ‘in pole position’ to land his signature.

The Japanese international, who has strung together a series of impressive seasons for Frankfurt and netted five times on his side’s way to lifting the Europa League last season.

So far this campaign he has continued in similar vein, racking up seven goals and five assists for the German outfit, but he is one of two stars set to depart for free this summer, with defender Evan NDicka also expected to leave when his contract expires with the club at the end of the campaign.

And according to reports, Tottenham were keen on adding Kamada to their ranks on a free, with his workrate and ability to create chances something highly valued by Antonio Conte as the Italian looks to bolster his squad further following the January acquisition of Pedro Porro.

Regularly linked with expensive attacking midfielders such as James Maddison and Nicolo Zaniolo, 26-year-old Kamada would have filled that void in the Spurs squad at a significantly cheaper price.

However, German reports claim that Dortmund are in pole position to land the Japan star ‘despite foreign interest’, which is thought to include Tottenham, and will force the north London side to look elsewhere.

As it stands, Tottenham are thought to be keen on adding another centre-back, a central midfielder and a new goalkeeper at the very least this summer, and how much more they will be able to do may depend on their Premier League finish as they battle Newcastle for a top four spot.
