Championship outfit Wigan Athletic have, late on Thursday, confirmed that head coach Kolo Toure has been relieved of his duties with immediate effect.
For those not aware, former Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City star Toure was appointed as the latest man in charge at the DW Stadium in November of last year.
On the back of an alarming stretch of results under the watch of Leam Richardson, the Ivorian was tasked with guiding Wigan away from the Championship’s relegation scrap.
Safe to say, however, that as much subsequently failed to materialise in any way, shape or form.
In fact, Toure only succeeded in dragging Wigan ever further into danger.
Owing to a stretch of no wins from nine, the Latics now prop up the table in England’s 2nd tier, staring the very real possibility of a return to League One square in the face.
In an official statement across the club’s social media platforms a short time ago, Wigan confirmed that:
‘Wigan Athletic can confirm that they have parted company with First Team Manager, Kolo Touré.
‘Touré arrived at the DW Stadium in November 2022, but after a run of results that sees the Club in a fight for survival in the Sky Bet Championship, the Board believe that this is the right time to make a change.
‘We can confirm that Kevin Betsy and Ashvir Johal have also left the Club.’
