Manchester City and Manchester United faced off at the Etihad on Sunday afternoon.
Manchester City headed into the game as favourites, though Manchester United had been in good form before the international break.
And, when all was said and done in Manchester,
Manchester City started the much better of the two sides and cut through Manchester United on several occasions in the opening five minutes but somehow did not score.
Man City would get their goal six minutes in, though. Joao Cancelo played a ball across the box and Phil Foden slotted in unmarked.

Man City continued to cause United issues and would make it 2-0 after 34 minutes. Kevin De Bruyne whipped in a corner, which Erling Haaland headed in.
The Norweigan then turned provider, crossing to Foden for his second goal of the game.
Man United started the second 45 better and got a goal back after 55 minutes with a wonder strike from Antony.
United’s hopes of a comeback were quickly killed off by Haaland completing his hat-trick 64 minutes in. City were not done there, though, as Foden got himself a hat-trick, with another assist for Haaland.
Anthony Martial then scored in the 83rd minute and in the 90th minute from the spot.

Manchester City player ratings
Ederson (6.5) – Perhaps could have done better with Antony’s goal.
Kyle Walker (5) – Went off with an injury after 40 minutes. Did little wrong before that.
Nathan Ake (6.5) – Was calm in possession and dealt with the pace of United’s attack well.
Manuel Akanji (6.5) – Despite having been thrust straight into City’s backline, Akanji has been a calm presence at the back, with his ability to bring the ball out from the back to help begin attacks especially impressive vs United.
Joao Cancelo (6.5) – Good cross to Foden for the opening goal.
Ilkay Gundogan (6.5) – Gundogan was played in a deeper role today due to Rodri’s injury and whilst it is not his best position, he did an excellent job covering for the Spaniard.
Kevin De Bruyne (8) -Produced a lovely corner for Haaland’s goal in the first half and then a brilliant cross for Haaland’s second.
Bernardo Silva (7) – Not his best showing but was good in possession.
Phil Foden (9.5) – Made a clever run and produced a good finish for his first two goals. Scored his first-ever City hat-trick 72 minutes in.
Erling Haaland (10) – Came close to scoring early on but his header was cleared off the line. Got his goal 33 minutes in with a leaping header. Showed excellent vision to get on the end of KDB’s cross for his second. Haaland also got an assist for Foden’s second and third as well as bagging his hat-trick after 63 minutes.
Jack Grealish (7) – Caused Diogo Dalot a lot of issues, with the right-back booked inside 2 minutes. Grealish also made a great run in the build-up to City’s third.

Sergio Gomez (6) – Could have been tighter to Antony before his goal. Got the assist for Haaland’s third.

Manchester United player ratings
David de Gea (3) – Made a good save to deny Kevin De Bruyne in the opening minutes. Was not really at fault for many of City’s goals but he still conceded 5.
Diogo Dalot (3) – Struggled to deal with Grealish and was fairly poor in possession.
Raphael Varane (4) – Was taken off with an injury in the first half.
Lisandro Martinez (3) – Martinez had a nightmare trying to mark Haaland and follow the runs of Foden, KDB and Grealish.
Tyrell Malacia (3) – Was also booked early on and did a poor job marking the free-roaming Foden and KDB. Taken off at the break.
Scott McTominay (2) – Really struggled to deal with City’s midfield. He gave the ball away on numerous occasions and was poor at tracking runners.
Christian Eriksen (2) – Failed to follow Foden’s run for the opener. He was also marking Haaland when he scored City’s second and was just generally poor at tracking the City player’s runs.
Bruno Fernandes (3) – Did nothing but moan at the ref all game.
Antony (5) – Fairly quiet all game but produced a superb strike to make it 4-1.
Jadon Sancho (3) – An anonymous display from Sancho.
Marcus Rashford (3) – Saw very little of the ball throughout the 60 minutes he was on.
Substitutes
Victor Lindelof (3) – Was brought on for the injured Varane but he also struggled against City’s attack.
Luke Shaw (4) – Brought on at half-time after a poor display from Malacia. Was somewhat of an improvement on the Dutchman.
Casemiro (4) – Brought on too late to impact the game.
Anthony Martial (6) – Scored United’s second and third.
Fred (4)
Expert view
know Eriksen has been outstanding recently but he and McTominay have been poor in the opening period. Positionally more than anything. 1-0 City and deservedly so. #MUFC

Casemiro needs to come on asap. Our midfield is non existent. We have a world class DM on the bench and we don’t play him. Doesn’t make sense to me. #Mufc

Ederson had more touches (40) and completed more passes (32) than any Manchester United player in the first half. 😅
