Manchester City are advancing on a move for Stade de Rennes attacker Jeremy Doku as they look to make their third signing of the summer, it has been revealed.
The Cityzens edged to a 1-0 win over Newcastle United to continue their 100% start to the season, courtesy of an excellent strike from Julian Alvarez. However, they are dealing with several injuries in their already light squad.
Following the departure of Riyad Mahrez to Saudi side Al-Ahli, Kevin de Bruyne was also forced off in the first minutes of the season with a reoccurrence of his hamstring tear, which will leave him sidelined for between four and five months in a major blow to Pep Guardiola’s side.
Meanwhile, a move for West Ham midfielder Lucas Paqueta collapsed after it emerged that the Brazilian was being investigated for alleged betting breaches.
Instead, City are pushing on with a move for Doku, with a deal of around 60m euros (£55m) being discussed for the young Belgian and having reportedly been agreed verbally.
Doku struggled to start for much of the season for Stade Rennes last season, but finished the campaign strongly and grabbed eight goal contributions in just over 1200 minutes of Ligue 1 football.
West Ham are also thought to be interested, but are unlikely to be able to match Manchester City financially.
He would become Manchester City’s third signing of the summer following the arrival of Croatian pair Mateo Kovacic and Josko Gvardiol, the latter becoming the most expensive defender of all time in the process of moving from RB Leipzig to the Etihad.
