Tottenham is in line to sack Antonio Conte over the next week, according to reports from The Telegraph’s Matt Law, after he slammed the club, owners, and players in the wake of his side’s 3-3 draw with Southampton.

Spurs threw away a 3-1 lead in the dying seconds of the game as a controversial penalty decision allowed James Ward-Prowse to level from the spot, and see the Lilywhites drop yet more points in the race for a top-four finish.

Out of the FA Cup and Champions League in meek fashion, Tottenham has taken 10 points from their last possible 15 and currently occupy fourth place, but could slip as low as 7th when Liverpool, Newcastle United, and Brighton all play their games in hand, though this is unlikely.

In the aftermath of the clash, Conte did not hold back.

“I think it’s better to go into the problem, we are not a team,” he said. “We are 11 players that go into the pitch. I see selfish players, players that don’t want to help each other and don’t put their heart [into it]. This season compared to last, now we are worse in this aspect. When you are not a team you cannot improve.”

They don’t play for something important, yeah. They don’t want to play under pressure, they don’t want to play under stress.

As per Matt Law, Conte, who was already expected to leave this summer, should be sacked this week as a result of the outburst.

Upon parting ways with the Italian headmaster, which would include severance pay, and – like Jose Mourinho – would experience not winning silverware at a club for the first time in his career with the Lilywhites. It is expected that Ryan Mason would likely take temporary charge until the end of the current 2022-23 campaign.
