Erik ten Hag took charge of Manchester United this summer, having a fairly successful pre-season.

Since the league season started, though, it has been a complete nightmare for the Dutchman.

United lost to Brighton at Old Trafford for the first time in their history on the opening weekend and were then smashed 4-0 by Brentford in gameweek two, meaning Ten Hag is the first United manager to lose their opening two Premier League games at the helm.

One of the main problem areas for United this season has been their build-up play. Ten Hag was keen to build out from the back with Ajax so, as soon as he was named United boss in April, question marks arose over David de Gea.

The Spaniard was a good shot-stopper in his day, but has never been very good with the ball at his feet.

His display vs Brentford highlighted this as he cost Manchester United at least one goal with his poor distribution.

Well, as per ESPN: “Sources told ESPN the goalkeeping situation was identified as a problem ahead of the new season, but Ten Hag believed the best option was to stick with the 31-year-old in his first season while other more pressing issues were solved.”

But whilst this make some sense, what doesn’t is letting Dean Henderson leave on loan with De Gea still the number one.
