Tottenham have been handed a major blow as Heung-Min Son is expected to be out of action until the World Cup, and perhaps miss the tournament, as a result of a fracture around his eye.
The South Korean forward was forced off in the first half of his side’s last-gasp 2-1 win over Marseille, which saw Spurs top their Champions League group and simultaneously robbed the French side of a place in the Europa League via a third placed finish.
And, in the celebratory photos following the victory, Son was visibly struggling to keep his eye open due to the issue, which saw him head straight down the tunnel.
First feared to be a concussion, it has in fact been revealed to be far more serious, with the 30-year-old suffering a fracture in his face that requires surgery.
“We can confirm that Heung-Min Son will undergo surgery to stabilise a fracture around his left eye”, Tottenham revealed in an official statement.
“Following surgery, Son will commence rehabilitation with our medical staff and we shall update supporters further in due course”, they added.

He joins Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison on the sidelines for Antonio Conte’s side, with Lucas Moura now likely to partner Harry Kane for the visit of Jurgen Klopp’s side.
