Manchester City have tabled a £25m offer for Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic as they look to add the Croatian to their ranks this summer, it has been reported.

The Croatian is down to the final year of his contract at Stamford Bridge and the Blues are keen to sell rather than risk losing him for free next summer amid financial fair play concerns and with plenty of transfer business of their own to conduct.

A long-term admirer of Kovacic, Pep Guardiola’s side are set to pounce on the situation and personal terms have already been agreed for the 29-year-old to complete a move to the Etihad this summer.

Kovacic’s arrival could potentially speed up a potential departure for Bernardo Silva, who has long been linked with a move to Barcelona or Paris Saint Germain and has recently been handed a lucrative offer to move to Saudi Arabia.

He could also prove a replacement for Ilkay Gundogan, with the Manchester City captain yet to have signed a new contract with the club and a free agent as things stand on July 1st.

The German has offers from Barcelona and Arsenal, and has already turned down the chance to return to the Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund.

Meanwhile, City are keen to strengthen beyond Kovacic, and could yet enter the race for Declan Rice after Arsenal had a second bid turned down.

They are also looking to make a mega move for defender Josko Gvardiol, with the RB Leipzig defender one of the most promising centre-backs in World football and valued in excess of 100m euros.
