An explanation for the absence of Barcelona star Andreas Christensen from Denmark’s latest XI has been provided on Thursday evening.

For those not aware, Denmark are currently locked in action.

In the nation’s Euro 2024 qualifier, Kasper Hjulmand’s troops have welcomed minnows San Marino to Parken, for a Group H clash.

And, as expected, it is the evening’s hosts who find themselves firmly in control, boasting a three-goal advantage owing to strikes on the part of all of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Joakim Maehle, amd Jonas Wind.

Amid such efforts, however, as alluded to above, one key member of the Danes’ ranks who has been forced to watch on from the bench comes in the form of Andreas Christensen.

Stopper Christensen was widely expected to be afforded his latest starting berth at international level on Thursday, taking his place at the heart of boss Hjulmand’s back-four.

With Christensen having continued to struggle for fitness across the early weeks of the new season, concern, in turn, quickly spread across the Barcelona faithful as to the wellbeing of their defensive star.

If the latest word stemming from the media this evening is anything to go by, however, then the Blaugrana’s fanbase need not fret.

As per a report from Spanish journalist Toni Juanmarti, Christensen was in fact not pencilled in to feature in Denmark’s first outing of the break.

This comes owing to an agreement reached between the nation’s football association, and their counterparts at the Camp Nou.

With the former Chelsea man still searching for full fitness, it was decided that taking extra precaution on Thursday would be best for Christensen’s wellbeing.

The 27-year-old, as a result, should be available to feature from the off on Sunday, against Finland.
