Championship outfit Leeds United have, on Friday evening, been dealt a heavy blow on the transfer front.

This comes amid confirmation that a leading target on the part of the Elland Road brass has opted to turn down the chance to move to west Yorkshire.

The player in question? Nadiem Amiri.

For those not familiar with his name, attacking midfielder Amiri took his place centre stage in the headlines at Leeds late on Thursday night.

This came amid widespread reports that the Whites were closing on a deal for the talented German international.

After a proposed move to France with Olympique Marseille fell through at the last, Leeds swooped in decisive fashion, agreeing a £5 million fee for Amiri with their counterparts at Bayer Leverkusen.

As alluded to above, though, if the latest word stemming from the media this evening is anything to go by, then this has in fact proven to be far from the case.

As per reliable German outlet BILD, Amiri has ‘decided against’ a move to Leeds.

The midfielder has therefore been included in Leverkusen’s squad to face Borussia Monchengladbach on Saturday, now looking increasingly likely to remain part of Xabi Alonso’s squad through the close of the summer transfer window.
