Tottenham are attempting to muscle in on Chelsea’s deal for young Montpellier striker Elye Wahi, according to reports coming out of France.
The Frenchman is coming off the back of a Ligue 1 season that saw him score 19 times and grab a further 6 assists, and he is considered one of the biggest talents around Europe.
Unsurprisingly, that has attracted the attention of plenty of suitors, with PSG and Atletico Madrid thought to be keen on signing him, while the Athletic have previously claimed that Chelsea are ‘the most advanced in the race’ for his signature.
His situation with Chelsea is unclear though, with the Blues set to loan him to feeder club Strasbourg immediately upon signing him and already boasting talented youngsters Armando Broja and Nicolas Jackson as options at no.9.
Now, reports out of France claim that Tottenham are looking to take advantage of that and are set to make a move for Wahi ‘in the coming hours’.
Any move will likely be linked to the departure of Harry Kane, which is looking increasingly likely amid strong interest from Bayern Munich.
New Spurs boss Ange Postecoglu is hoping for a quick resolution on that front.
“I think, for everyone concerned, we don’t want to be doing it for too long. I don’t think that is good for anyone. I don’t think it is good for Harry, I don’t think it is good for the club,” Postecoglu explained.
“Because as laser focused as we want to be, you end up sort of repeating yourself along the way. But the flip side of that is I don’t want to put a deadline on it, because that adds even more pressure.
“You want these things to happen for the right reasons. The reality of it is he’s still a contracted player at our football club, so that’s the way I see him.”
