Chelsea may be forced to add another defender to their summer shopping list after they have been left in limbo on the injury status of Wesley Fofana.
The Frenchman, who joined the club 12 months ago from Leicester City for a fee of £70m, has struggled with injuries since his move to west London and managed just 15 Premier League appearances.
Finishing the season as Chelsea’s first choice centre-back, he was expected to remain there under Mauricio Pochettino, partnering one of compatriot Benoit Badiashile or Levi Colwill in the heart of the Blues defence.

However, there are concerns over a potential injury once more, with the 22-year-old having been left out of the travelling party for the tour of the USA ahead of the season starting.
Again a knee injury, it is currently being assessed, with the severity unknown.
However, if it is serious it is likely to see Chelsea dip back into the transfer market for a centre-back, Fabrizio Romano reports.
However, Chalobah is keen to leave the club in search of regular first-team football, while Silva is now approaching 39 years of age and there are concerns about how regularly he will be able to play.
As it stands, current focus for Mauricio Pochettino’s side is in midfield, where they have seen a second bid for Moises Caicedo rejected, believed to have totalled £70m. They are also keeping tabs on Spanish talent Gabri Veiga, who has a £34m release clause in his contract.
