Mo Salah matched a 30-year-old record set by John Barnes as his brace of asissts helped Liverpool to a 3-1 win over Wolves at Molineux.

The Egyptian was hardly involved in the game for much of the encounter, and struggled in the first half as the home side went into the break with a shock 1-0 lead over Jurgen Klopp’s side.

The second half was a different story though, and though Salah’s involvement continued to be limited, he made it count. A cross-shot across the six yard box allowed Cody Gakpo to tap home an equaliser 10 minutes into the second half, before a slick one-two with Andy Robertson allowed the Scot to fire Liverpool into the lead and back towards the top of the Premier League.

He could have had three assists too, only for Harvey Elliot’s effort to go down as an own goal after he had been teed up by the Egyptian.

The brace was enough though, and Salah’s excellent form at the beginning of the season leaves him as the first Liverpool player since John Barnes to score or assist in each of Liverpool’s first five games of a new season.

With that record having come about all the way back in 1990, it also makes Salah the first Liverpool player to achieve that feat in the Premier League era, and is a further testimony to his importance at Anfield, where he is already a club legend.

With the forward in this form though, they may just want to keep hold of him no matter the bid.
