Romelu Lukaku’s proposed move to Inter Milan is off after the Italian side pulled out of negotiations in the wake of news that the striker was in talks with Juventus.

The striker had been given time off to sort out his future ahead of the new season, with it widely assumed that he won’t be a Chelsea player next season.

He joined Chelsea from Inter in 2021, but after a dismal campaign at Stamford Bridge the £97m addition spent last season back with Nerazzurri on loan.

Speaking to the media just last week, Inter boss Inzaghi explained that “Lukaku is Chelsea player now. We all know how crucial he has been for us”.

However, he added that “I did my best to bring him back last summer, we’d like to re-sign Romelu also this summer. We’ll do our best to make it happen”.

It was understood that they were in negotiations for the Belgian after submitting a second bid for the striker, believed to be around £28m. But that has since changed following revelations that Lukaku held talks with Juventus on Friday over a potential switch to Turin, with the San Siro side thought to be ‘furious’ with their former striker and pulling the plug on any deal for the attacker.

With three years still left to run on his contract in west London, he returns to Chelsea training on Monday ahead of their preseason tour of the USA, though he is not expected to take part.
