Tottenham are ready to hand England defender Eric Dier a new contract, extending his current deal by a further three years, despite having enjoyed a mixed season so far.

The centre-back has made 28 appearances in the top flight this season, and has made the centre of Tottenham’s back three his own, despite their rocky season which has seen Antonio Conte depart and Tottenham looking an outside shout to qualify for the Champions League next season.

However, there is expected to be a defensive exodus in north London this summer, with the futures of Joe Rodon, Japhet Tanganga and Davinson Sanchez unclear while Clement Lenglet’s Barcelona loan will expire.

It means that Dier will be one of few Spurs defenders certain of a place at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium, and to that end the Tottenham hierarchy are keen to tie his future down for a further three years.

As it stands, the 29-year-old’s current contract expires in 2024, and an additional three years at the club would keep the Englishman until 2026, when he would be 32-years old.

His experience could prove vital to any incoming Tottenham manager, though at present no appointment has been made despite reports that Vincent Kompany is their no.1 target following his impressive spell with Burnley.

There is also uncertainty over Fabio Paratici, with the Tottenham Director of Football having left on a leave of absence ahead of his appeal against the 30 month ban he received for his part in Juventus’ most recent scandal.
