Tottenham and Antonio Conte have identified Brentford star David Raya as the ideal replacement to veteran shot-stopper and club captain Hugo Lloris, according to reports.

The French goalkeeper, who has been at Spurs since arriving Lyon a decade ago, has racked up over 400 appearances for the Lilywhites and has been an exceptional servant to the club, but now 36-years-old he remains somewhat error-prone, as he has shown against both Arsenal and Aston Villa so far this season.

Neither can he go on forever, while his current deputy Fraser Forster is also in his mid-thirties, with both players due to be out of contract in north London in 2024 as it stands.

And, as per the Telegraph, it is a position that will be addressed this summer, with Spurs having identified Raya as an option to fill the no.1 jersey in the longer term.

The Brentford man has impressed with both his shot-stopping and distribution since joining the Bees, and was on the radar of north London rivals Arsenal before they ultimately opted to move for Aaron Ramsdale instead.

Come this summer, he will be entering the last 12 months of his contract, and the Spaniard is likely to attract widespread interest, meaning that the Lilywhites could well have a fight on their hands to secure his signature.

While it is not a January concern, with the focus this winter on a creative midfielder and a wing back, it is certainly a key part of Tottenham’s future squad planning.
