Another regime in North London is up and running at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium under new manager Ange Postecoglou in the post-Harry Kane era after the iconic Spurs goalscorer opted to head off to Bavaria to join German giants Bayern Munich.
The former Celtic boss, who thus far has gotten the club’s fanbase onside with his approach on and off the pitch in pre-season, guided the club to a point in its opening 2023-24 fixture in a 2-2 draw against a credible mid-table outfit in Brentford across the capital at Gtech Stadium.
Debutant James Maddison already began to repay the fee Spurs splashed this summer when he bagged a brace of assists, but with both goals on the day coming from the back four, there are still questions surrounding the likes of new captain Son Heung-Min, Dejan Kulusevski, Richarlison, and the aforementioned Maddison will be able to collectively produce the goods in Kane’s stead.
Two tricky ties to begin the Postecoglou regime is probably a good gauge of where the club could become by the end of the season if the Australian headmaster can tie it all together once he fully beds into the club, but it remains to be seen how Tottenham can cope without Kane, if at all, with over 20 goals being removed from the first-choice XI despite the arrival of Maddison. But after United were less than stellar against Wolves on Monday night, they may still fancy their chances.

Ange Postecoglou could be in line to name an unchanged XI at the weekend against domestic rivals Manchester United on Saturday in the wake of last weekend’s draw against Brentford and questions surrounding key center-back Cristian Romero. After coming off with a possible concussion, the World Cup winner will be assessed beforehand, but given that Spurs did not use a concussion substitution, he could still be in line to feature but will no doubt be handled delicately.
Additionally, Postecoglou remains without Tanguy Ndombele, Ryan Sessegnon, Rodrigo Bentancur, Bryan Gil, and Fraser Forster, and despite the disappointing beginning to the campaign, there is little scope – or room – to see any changes unless Romero is replaced with Davinson Sánchez.
