Newcastle United head coach Eddie Howe has, on Sunday, provided an update on the wellbeing of Sean Longstaff.
For those who may have missed it, midfielder Longstaff was forced to sit out earlier today, as Newcastle welcomed bottom-of-the-table Southampton to St. James’ Park, for a Premier League clash.
This comes after the 25-year-old was forced into a premature departure in midweek, when the Magpies made short work of Everton at Goodison Park.
Howe and co, to their credit, nevertheless marched on to a comfortable victory this afternoon, thanking a Callum Wilson brace for an eventual 3-1 triumph.

Speaking post-match, though, Eddie Howe was drawn on Longstaff’s wellbeing once more.
This comes as Newcastle prepare for a headline fixture next weekend, when they welcome Mikel Arteta’s high-flying Arsenal to Tyneside.
The hope, in turn, is that he will be back on the pitch ‘soon’:
“Sean picked up a knock on his foot. We sent him for an x-ray. There’s no break or fracture we think. We hope it’s just bad bruising. He wasn’t available today but we hope he’ll be back soon.”
Eddie Howe is hopeful that Sean Longstaff has avoided serious injury, with x-ray on his foot not showing a fracture.
There’s a chance the #NUFC midfielder could be back for #AFC clash next Sunday.#NEWSOU https://t.co/dpoiLT0yuS
