Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is ready to walk away from the Etihad Stadium when his current contract ends in 2025 after clinching a historic treble with the club this season.
A Champions League final win over Inter Milan, the club’s first ever and Guardiola’s first since his time with Barcelona, means that the club join rivals Manchester United as the only side to have managed a treble that consists of the Premier League and Champions League (The Red Devils achieved it in 1999).
It means that Guardiola has now watched over 14 trophies during his seven-year tenure at the helm of the Cityzens, only failing to lift silverware of some description in his first season in charge.

However, his time with the club seems to be coming to an end. According to the Guardian, the Spaniard is ‘firmly minded’ to leave the club when his current contract expires in 2025, though whether it would be to seek a new challenge or to enjoy retirement remains unclear.
They add that Guardiola ‘has all but decided that he will depart in summer 2025′, and could now try his hand at international management having previously been linked with the Brazil and Spanish National team posts.
It is not the first time that Guardiola’s future appears to have been decided well in advance. In 2021, he told reporters that he would leave in the summer of 2023 when his initial contract ended, explaining that ‘‘I must take a break after seven years (at City). I need to stop and see, learn from other coaches, and maybe take that path.’
Guardiola’s departure would come as a massive blow to the Cityzens, who remain under investigation for an alleged 115 breaches of financial regulations from before and during the Spaniard’s time in charge. One of the greatest coaches in the history of the sport, there are few who could fill his shoes at the Etihad.
