Newcastle United are plotting an audacious triple swoop as Chelsea look for ways to trim their squad following an expensive January transfer window.
The west Londoners have been the busiest side so far this January by a long way, splashing out over 150m euros and showing no signs of stopping.
All told so far, the Blues have made five additions already this winter. Young players Andrey Santos and David Datro Fofana have arrived from Vasco De Gama and Molde respectively, while they have shelled out to bring Benoit Badiashile in from AS Monaco and hijack Arsenal’s bid for Mykhaylo Mudryk, who was unveiled on Sunday.
They are also expected to make two further signings, with a midfielder and a full-back on Todd Boehly’s wishlist, something that will leave them with a very bloated squad and facing problems with UEFA.
And, as per the Telegraph, Eddie Howe’s high-flying Newcastle United side are looking to take advantage of that, and will table bids for as many as three Chelsea stars. The Magpies are interesting in signing all of Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Conor Gallagher and Hakim Ziyech this winter in a bid to strengthen their claim to a top 4 spot come the end of the campaign.
It is as of yet unclear how long Howe is set to be without Bruno Guimaraes, who picked up an ankle injury and was forced off at half time in their 1-0 home win over Fulham on Sunday, but both Gallagher and Loftus-Cheek would provide some much needed midfield cover for the Tyneside outfit.
However, Potter is thought to be unwilling to lose either Gallagher or Loftus-Cheek at present, both of whom contribute to the sides home-grown quota. Should the former be made available, there is thought to be interest from Crystal Palace and Everton too, leaving Newcastle with a fight on their hands.
