A remarkable statistic, highlighting the surprise dominance of Italian clubs in European competition this season, has come to the fore late on Thursday.
For those who may have missed it, the final round of quarter-final fixtures across the continent’s three top club competitions came to a close a short time ago.
In the Europa League, Manchester United were humbled by Sevilla, Juventus scraped past Sporting CP, Bayer Leverkusen made short work of Union St. Gilloise, and AS Roma got the better of Feyenoord after extra time.
Whilst in the Conference League, West Ham thumped Gent, Fiorentina survived a scare at home to Lech Poznan, Basel shocked OGC Nice, and AZ Alkmaar required penalties to sent Anderlecht packing.

Adding to this the advancements of Manchester City, Real Madrid, AC Milan and Inter Milan in the Champions League, and what do you get? A whole lot of Italian representation in the final rounds of European competition.
In fact, as revealed late this evening, in the two Milan clubs, Juventus, Roma and Fiorentina, Serie A boasts as many representatives in the final-4 as all of the Premier League, La Liga, the Bundesliga and Ligue 1 combined.
