Manchester United are on the right path back to the top under new Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag, rival boss Pep Guardiola has claimed following their bright start to the season.

Ten Hag has opted to bench several star names, including Cristiano Ronaldo and Harry Maguire, since he arrived at the club in the summer, and after a poor start to the season he has managed to oversee some strong form from the Red Devils.

They have beaten fellow top six sides Arsenal, Tottenham and Liverpool at home, while they also grabbed a late draw against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge and have lost just once in the Premier League since their opening two games of the season.

And, while they came unstuck in a big way against Manchester City, losing 6-3 at the Etihad in a scoreline that if anything flattered the Red Devils, rival boss Pep Guardiola has revealed that he sees them as a side very much on the up at present.

“I have the feeling United are coming back,” said Guardiola.

“Finally United is coming back – I’ve seen it on Thursday [the 3-0 win over Sheriff Tiraspol], and against Chelsea in the first half [of the 1-1 draw last weekend].

Having not won a Premier League title since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013, there is still plenty of work to do for Ten Hag to restore the Red Devils to their former glories. However, early signs suggest, as Guardiola points out, they are heading in the right direction.
