The player in question is goalkeeper Daniel Bachmann, who is currently playing for Watford in the Championship.

Bachmann signed for Watford in 2017 and has since been fighting for his place at their no.1.

He featured 12 times in the Premier League last season as the Hornets were relegated, but he has now become their no.1 goalkeeper in 2022/23.

Watford have played eight games so far this season, with Bachmann managing to keep three clean sheets and concede seven goals.

Now, in a recent interview, Bachmann has admitted to serious talks with Manchester United.

Speaking to LAOLA1, Bachmann said: “There have been talks with Manchester United. That’s no secret.

“In the end, however, I’m still a Watford player and I’m very happy about it. Because I play here regularly, bring in my performances and hopefully can play a role in the national team again.”

Manchester United went in search of some cover for David de Gea during the summer, despite letting Dean Henderson go out on loan to Nottingham Forest.

And whilst there were a number of names linked, Manchester United eventually settled on Newcastle United’s Martin Dubravka.

Given Dubravka is not great with the ball at his feet, it seemed an odd move for United as Erik ten Hag clearly wants his goalkeeper to play out from the back most of the time.
