Fans from across the English football landscape have flooded to social media on Thursday evening, to lavish praise on history-makers Sheffield Wednesday.

For those who may somehow have missed it, this comes after The Owls were responsible for the most jaw-dropping of results a short time ago.

After being dispatched of with alarming ease in the tie’s first leg, Wednesday welcomed Peterborough United to Hillsborough, looking all but dead and buried in their quest for promotion to The Championship.

Queue unbridled chaos in Sheffield…

Owing to goals on the part of all of Michael Smith, Lee Gregory, Reece James and Liam Palmer, the evening’s hosts turned momentum completely on its head, to send proceedings at Hillsborough to extra time.

From here, Peterborough finally appeared to have gotten things back on track, however, upon Lee Gregory’s own goal putting the visitors back in front on aggregate on the stroke of the interval in extra time.

After Callum Paterson restored parity once more, a tense penalty shootout saw Darren Moore’s hosts hold their nerve, slotting home all five of their spot-kicks to book a spot in the League One playoff final.

And, safe to say, despite the result having come all the way down in the third division of English football, its significance has not been at all lost.

In fact, as showcased below, many on social media have since gone as far as to label Sheffield Wednesday’s comeback victory as the greatest to take place in the history of the EFL playoffs:
