Manchester United completed the signing of Argentina defender Lisandro Martinez from Ajax in a deal worth up to 67m euros (£57m) during the 2022 summer transfer window.
The centre-back has since impressed in the Premier League despite his height, and has begun to form a great partnership with Raphael Varane at the heart of Manchester United’s defence.
Martinez started alongside Varane in the Europa League on Thursday and came away with another clean sheet.
After the match, Martinez gave his verdict on the game:
‘’Tonight we had to win as we needed the three points. It was very important to us,’’ he began, speaking to MUTV following our win in Moldova.
‘’We work very hard everyday in training and today [Jadon] Sancho scored a fantastic goal.
The South American then spoke out on the support he has received from Manchester United fans since he arrived at the club:
“I’m a little bit surprised, but at the same time I feel very proud,” he said. “To come here to the best club in the world and the people say “Argentina, Argentina”, it’s amazing. ‘’Thanks to the fans for the support.’’
