The Premier League’s biggest clash in gameweek three sees Newcastle play host to Liverpool.

Newcastle pipped Liverpool to a Champions League spot last time out so this game could be huge in the race for European football this season.

Liverpool have won one and drawn one to start their season, with Newcastle winning one and losing to Manchester City.

Here is 101GreatGoals’ combined XI for the clash.

Newcastle vs Liverpool combined XI

GK: Alisson – Whilst Nick Pope has proven to be a solid goalkeeper since his move to Newcastle, Alisson is a much more well-rounded option who is better with the ball at his feet.

RB: Kieran Trippier – Trent Alexander-Arnold had a bright spell at the back end of last season but he is once again showing his defensive weakness this term, whereas Trippier has been solid at both ends of the pitch.

CB: Virgil van Dijk – Virgil van Dijk is not the player he once was, but he is still Liverpool’s best defender and a step above his international teammate, Newcastle’s Sven Botman.

LB: Andy Robertson – Dan Burn has excelled in his new role at left-back over the last year, but Robertson remains a better overall left-back.

CM: Bruno Guimaraes – With Liverpool lacking any sort of quality in the holding midfield role, there is little competition for Bruno Guimaraes.

CM: Alexis Mac Allister – Alexis Mac Alister has had an excellent start to life at Liverpool. His passing was superb vs Chelsea and though he was sent off last weekend, that decision was harsh and it has now been overturned.

CM: Dominik Szoboszlai – Szoboszlai is proving to be an excellent creative outlet for Liverpool and is already forming a great understanding with Mohamed Salah down Liverpool’s right-hand side. Newcastle do not really have anyone who can match the Hungarian’s creativity in their midfield.

RW: Mohamed Salah – Despite getting on in years, Mo Salah remains one of the Premier League’s best right-wingers with nobody in Newcastle’s side close to his level.

ST: Alexsandr Isak – Liverpool’s striking options have been poor so far this season, partly due to Cody Gakpo being forced to play in midfield. Isak, however, has looked sharp and looks set for an excellent campaign.

LW: Luis Diaz – Luis Diaz has firmly cemented the left-wing spot for Liverpool this season and if he can remain injury-free, he will be a major threat to any defence he faces in 2023/24. He has scored two in two so far this term.
