Liverpool head coach Jurgen Klopp has, on Thursday, been hit with a touchline ban by way of the FA.

This comes owing to the German’s post-match comments, after his side’s last-gasp victory over Tottenham late last month.

After his celebration on the back of Diogo Jota’s late winner earned Klopp a yellow card, the tactician accused referee Paul Tierney of bias against Liverpool, explaining:

“We have our history with (Paul) Tierney, I really don’t know what this man has against us, he has said there is no problems but that cannot be true.

“How he looks at me, I don’t understand it. But again? He was reffing against Tottenham [in 2021] where Harry Kane should have got a red card. And I love this player, crazy player and I don’t want him to get a red card, but he should.

“And it’s Mr Tierney. It’s really tricky and hard to understand.”

And though, to his credit, the former Borussia Dortmund chief did go on to send a letter of apology to the FA, as alluded to above, he has nevertheless been hit with a ban.

As confirmed late on Thursday evening, Klopp has been suspended from touchline duties for two games, as well as being hit with a £75,000 fine.

Owing to his open remorse for his actions, one of the German’s two matches has been suspended, meaning, for the time being, he will only be forced to sit out this weekend, when Liverpool welcome Aston Villa to Anfield for the club’s final league outing of the season.
