Manchester United have found themselves caught up in yet another legal scandal after it emerged that Antony is under investigation in Brazil and England for domestic abuse.

The allegations have been made by his ex-girlfriend Gabriela Cavallin, and include physical violence across four seperate attacks, as well as several incidences of verbal abuse.

As per reports in Brazil, she suffered a deep cut on one of her fingers, as well as being headbutted and also having to undergo surgery after one of her breast implants was damaged by the winger, who she has seen on and off since his time at Ajax.

Antony denies these claims, and took to Instagram to share his side of the story. He said on social media: “I can calmly state that the accusations are false and that the evidence already produced and the other evidence that will be produced demonstrate that I am innocent of the accusations made”, adding that he ‘never committed any physical aggression’ towards Cavallin.

The winger has been dropped from Brazil’s squad for their upcoming clashes with Bolivia and Peru as a result though, and is expected to return to Manchester in the coming days as a result, with Gabriel Jesus taking his spot in the squad.

However, as it stands there will be no further action taken by the club, a statement confirmed.

“Pending further information, the club will be making no further comments.

As a club, we are taking this matter seriously, with consideration of the impact of these allegations and subsequent reporting will have on survivors of abuse.”

It is the second high-profile Manchester United man to have come under police scrutiny in the last year, with Mason Greenwood also having been investigated for rape and physical violence, only for the case to be dropped before it could reach court.

After trying to bring Greenwood back into the fold, United changed their mind thanks to backlash by fans and on social media, and he now plays on loan for Getafe CF.
