Real Madrid have beaten Barcelona by a four goal margin for the first time in almost 30 years as they thrashed the Blaugrana in their own back yard thanks to a hat-trick from Karim Benzema to advance to the Copa del Rey final.
Heading into second leg of the tie 1-0 down, it was the hosts that dominated a tetchy first half, only for Carlo Ancelotti’s side to strike on the break just before half time through electric winger Vinicius Jr.

Five minutes into the second half and Karim Benzema had doubled their lead on the night, and handed them the lead in the tie when he was left in too much space by the Barca backline and fired home, before the Frenchman grabbed his second of the night from the penalty spot on the hour mark.
There was still time for him to complete his hat-trick ten minutes from time, and in doing so he handed Barcelona their first four-goal defeat to Real Madrid since January 1995, when three goals from Zamorano saw them lose 5-0.

The victory set up a Copa Del Rey final with Osasuna, who Los Blancos will face as heavy favourites, and could see them land their 20th trophy of the competition, three behind cross-city rivals Atletico but still a whopping 11 behind the Blaugrana.
Meanwhile, Barcelona will have to console themselves with a League title, with Xavi’s side 12 points clear of Real Madrid in La Liga with 11 games to play, meaning that only a major capitulation would deny them that particular honour.
