Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk has, on Friday evening, provided his response to news of his extended Premier League ban.

For those who may have missed it, stopper Van Dijk was dealt a fresh blow earlier this afternoon.

This came after confirmation was forthcoming that an investigation into his conduct after being dismissed during Liverpool’s recent Premier League meeting with Newcastle United culminated in the Dutch international being found guilty of using ‘abusive and insulting’ language towards the team of officials.

Van Dijk, as a result, was banned for an extra game, and hit with a considerable £100,000 fine.

After missing Liverpool’s comfortable downing of Aston Villa last weekend, the former Southampton standout will now also be unavailable for selection against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday, September 16th.

News of their defensive talisman’s prolonged absence has since been met with understandable frustration on the part of fans of Jurgen Klopp’s troops, aware of his ongoing importance at the heart of the Reds’ backline.

Taking to social media late this evening, the 32-year-old unveiled a statement, confirming that he allowed his frustrations to ‘get the better of him’ at St. James’ Park, therefore ‘totally accepting’ the sanction:
