The player in question is David de Gea, who has reiterated his ‘love’ for Manchester United, following reports that he had rejected a contract offer from the club.
It was reported earlier this week by The Athletic that De Gea has rejected United’s opening offer to keep him at the club beyond the summer, though there is a belief that an agreement will be reached between the two parties.
Speaking on the issue himself, De Gea said:
“Of course I’ve been here many, many years,” De Gea told Sky Sports. “Enjoying every moment in this club and playing many games.
“It’s a massive club, I love the club and I’m really happy here of course. It has been the same over the years, a lot of noise about everything in this club but the players, we just focus on games.
“Especially the one we have on Sunday is a massive one for us because we want to finish in the top four.
De Gea joined Manchester United in 2011 from Atletico Madrid and has made 529 appearances for the Red Devils to date.
During that time he has won the Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup and Europa League. However, his inability to play out from the back has made him susceptible to criticism from football fans, especially in recent years.
